Tumble Creek Bridge Repair Project to begin in March on OR 22 near Detroit

One lane to close for three months; both lanes open on weekends

DETROIT—A project that will repair the Tumble Creek Bridge on OR 22 four miles west of Detroit will begin on Monday, March 18. During the three month project at least one lane will remain open with flaggers controlling two-way traffic 24-7.

Weather permitting; beginning March 18 to April 5, one lane will be closed through two continuous weekends. Beginning April 7, one lane of traffic will be closed from Sunday at 9 p.m. until Friday at noon. Travelers should expect delays.

The project includes grinding and removing existing asphalt on the bridge to a depth of 8 inches, installing a waterproof membrane, repaving the bridge, reconstructing the bridge approaches and upgrading the guardrail.

During construction OR 22 will remain open for small vehicles. However, large trucks will need to detour at Santiam Junction using U.S. 20 to OR 126 with access to Interstate 5.

The Tumble Ridge Trailhead next to the bridge will remain open but parking at the trailhead will temporarily move from the south parking area to a parking area west of the bridge.

Variable message signs will be posted at various locations to warn travelers of the construction and potential delays.

Access for pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will be available and identified through or around the work zones.
